Converting Photos to Black and White

PhotoDirector gives you a quick way to convert color photos into Black and White. By selecting B&W, you image is automatically converted.

However, the image may appear to be flat. You can further enhance your photo by adjusting the color slider. Usually, color of the sky appears to be brighter after converting to black and white, so you can slide the lightness of the “Blue” Color down. In this image, both green and yellow sliders are adjusted to enhance the contrast of the tree.

Your image editing doesn’t stop here, you can add more punch by adjusting clarity and contrast.

To ensure your image have the full tonal range, click on the Over/Exposed indication icon in the histogram and slide the Bright and Black sliders until a couple of clipped dots are displayed in the photo.

The key to a great B&W photo is to have enough contrast (pure black and pure white) in your image.

There is no right or wrong in image editing, you can go back and forth adjusting contrast and colors until it has reached your preferred style and taste. PhotoDirector is a non-destructive editing software, so you can be brave to experiment while the original image is left untouched. Changes are only made when you export your photos and are saved to another file.

Here is the final image:

Guinness Record Breaking Selfie

Earlier this week, Guinness Book of World Records declared that Mark E. Miller and Ethan Hethcote has set the world record for the "most self-portrait photographs (selfies) taken in an hour." The two guys took a whopping 355 photos in an hour.

It's not just the number of shots that won them the record, according to Guinness World Records, "The way this works is it's not just one person taking photos of themselves, but they have to have a different person in each photo that they take."

Miller and Hethcote were sent to Miami by #MissionSmile, "A Movement To Make The Nation Smile," to set the record. Butr who is actually behind this movement? It's a mystery we've yet to find out, as they mentioned it will be announced in June.

How to Resize Photos to Share on Facebook

Why do the photos look so much better on your desktop than they do online? There are manyreasons and to name a few:

Compression:  Facebook and most social sites don’t want our photos to take too much space on their servers, so even if you select the “high-res” option on Facebook, it still compresses your photo. Taking out pixels out of any image will degrade the quality.

Color Space:  The web mainly uses sRGB. There are other selections in PhotoDirector such as aRGB or ProPhoto RGB that are much larger color space. These color spaces lets you see more color variations in the photos that browsers cannot.

Sharpness :  When a photo is resized, it throws some details out. To make your images look better, follow the steps below when exporting your photos for facebook:

Select a photo to share on Facebook and right click to “Export Selected Photo”. In the Export menu there is a list of settings. First select where you want to save the file. In this tutorial we will save the image to Desktop. As for naming, I usually don’t make any changes to this section.

Now for Export Preferences, select JPEG for file format, sRGB for color space and 100% for image quality.

In the Image sizing section, select “resize to fit” and define “long edge” to 2048 pixels.
2048 is the recommended size for Facebook photos. Set resolution to 72 pixels per inch.
Make sure “Sharpen after resize” and “Don’t increase photo resolution” are selected

Now, your photos will look much better when you share on Facebook.
You can save this Export profile and select it whenever you want to Export to Facebook.

This will make your workflow even faster.
